The year was 1981 and Dons’ dream was to share with the world some of the most unique and important icons of the industrial revolution. Years later, 91 years later to be exact, the area was rediscovered by Terry & Don Robertson. Or course, the gold ran out and the mine was closed. In 1901, the population was 30! They even had their own post office from 1908 – 1922. When they dug a 1270 foot mine shaft, (you can still visit it today) searching for copper, they struck GOLD! The location was only 1 mile north of the mining town, Jerome, but they became their own mining camp called “Haynes”. The history here is rich and there are stories to be told. We invite you to visit the Gold King Mine and Ghost Town while visiting Jerome Arizona. The road is paved all of the way to our location. We are hoping you have plans of visiting the Historic Town of Jerome Arizona with your family and are hopeful that you will come on up the hill, swing by and spend a glorious Fall day at the Gold King Mine and Ghost Town! We’re less than a mile away from the visitor parking area and the Jerome Fire Department building. There are some days at the Gold King Mine when it is just a bit to cold to be panning for gold! We still want to see you however, don’t let that stop you from visiting, just check in with us first. If you are planning on visiting to pan for gold, please give us a call to inquire about the local conditions and weather. That’s pretty early in the afternoon as we move further into the Holiday Season. Keep in mind as we move in to the fall months in Jerome, our days begin getting chilly as soon as that sun sets behind the mountain. Our weather has been perfect and there is nothing more that we would enjoy than seeing old friends and making new ones as we all begin to “get back to normal”. We ask that you remain vigilant and respect others social distancing needs. The Gold King Mine & Ghost Town appreciates your cooperation!
